George Frank Higgins, American, 19th century, Active 1859-1884.
George F. Higgins lived near the White Mountains during his active years, claiming East Somerville, MA,
as his residence in 1873 and Melrose, MA in 1876. He exhibited at the Boston Athenaeum from 1859-1862,
at the Leonard Auction Rooms in Boston during that same period, and at the Boston Art Club from1873-1891.
Higgins painted in both oils and watercolors, traveling throughout New England, the Adirondack Mountains
of New York and Florida. He spent considerable time in the White Mountains of New Hampshire,
as did many artists of this period. Higgin's paintings are included in the collections of the Farnsworth Museum
in Maine, and the Museum of Art in Georgia. Many of his paintings are listed in the authoritative book,
"New Hamphire Scenery" by Catherine Campbell.
